Background
Rapid digitalisation in all areas of society entails a need for analyses of, and subsequent dissemination of the knowledge we acquire about the very opaque and complicated legal context for the development, use and transfer of both data and the technologies used to gather, store and utilise the data.
Other Nordic countries have worked with legal informatics as a separate discipline for many years. Legal informatics is applied, for example, in Norway and Sweden as a designation for the clarification, systematisation and analysis of the legal challenges that follow the development and use of information and communication technologies (ICT), welfare technologies etc.
The best known of these is the personal data law, in which the reform of data protection regulations that was adopted by the EU in 2016 will radically alter the legal framework from May, 2018. The designation legal informatics encompasses
The aim of the project
The purpose of the Legal Informatic Project (LiP) is to improve legal informatics in Denmark and thereby make it possible to fulfil the need for clarity around the legal framework for utilisation of data and use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in Danish society.
The project outcome
- Survey and analysis of the future EU legal framework for data exchange within the health care sector.
- Training services for companies and organizations: Certificate in personal data law. Read more about the course of study (only in Danish)
- Development of a "Personal Data Law Network in Southern Denmark"- a website where companies, organizations and authorities in the Region of Southern Denmark can request presentations etc. concerning personal data law issues.
- Development of courses in personal data law and related legal informatics topics for all faculties and programmes at SDU
