Climate goals- and plan for 2030

As a university, we play an important role in relation to the climate challenges. We create new knowledge through research and disseminate this knowledge through education and in collaboration with external parties.

However, as a place of study for 27,000 students and a workplace for 4,000 employees (full-time equivalents) spread over six campuses, it is also important for us to reduce our own CO2 emissions in line with what research deems necessary.

SDU has therefore set a tentative goal of reducing its CO2 emissions by 57% in 2030 compared to 2018. In 2018, SDU’s CO2 emissions amounted to a total of 11,373 tonnes of CO2 equivalents. This means that various greenhouse gases have been converted to what they would be equivalent to in CO2.

The target of a reduction of 57% compared to 2018 corresponds to a reduction of 70% compared to 1990. With this goal, SDU thus lives up to the government’s goal of a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030 compared to 1990.

A description of SDU’s efforts towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions is compiled in Climate Plan 2030.
