Ph.D. Bryan Yazell is an associate professor at the Department for the Study of Culture at SDU.

He received his PhD in English from the University of California in Davis. Following his PhD, he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship with the Niels Bohr Professorship Program, the Centre for “Uses of Literature,” at SDU. His research investigates how literature reflects or intervenes in public debates regarding matters of social welfare in general and migrant groups in particular. While focusing largely on sources in the US, this scholarship is interested in tracing the transnational networks that shape the discourse around migration in a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts, from nineteenth-century travel narratives to recent speculative fiction.

His research has appeared in, among other sources, Configurations, Modern Fiction Studies, The Journal of Transnational American Studies, Studies in the Fantastic, and James Joyce Quarterly.
