Ph.D. Anthony Vincent Fernandez is Assistant Professor of Applied Philosophy at the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics at SDU

He received his PhD in philosophy from University of South Florida in 2016 and was previously a postdoctoral research fellow at Dalhousie University, Canada, and University of Oxford, UK, as well as an assistant professor at Kent State University, USA.

His research is on interdisciplinary applications of phenomenology—a philosophical study of experience and subjectivity—across a variety of fields, including psychiatry and nursing. His work has been published in journals across these fields, such as SynthesePhenomenology and the Cognitive SciencesThe Lancet PsychiatrySchizophrenia BulletinInternational Journal of Nursing Studies, and Journal of Clinical Nursing. He is also co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of Phenomenological Psychopathology, published in 2019. At SDU, he is a member of the research unit, Movement, Culture and Society (MoCS), led by Prof. Susanne Ravn, where he collaborates on applications of phenomenology to qualitative studies in health and sports science.
