Elin Abrahamsson holds a Ph.D. in Gender Studies. Her doctoral thesis is a Swedish monograph with the English title Mas(s)turbatory Readings: A Queer Analysis of Popular Romance (2018). Abrahamsson’s research interests mainly include feminist cultural studies and queer theory. She holds a special interest for those types of popular culture that are associated with femininity and female audiences, such as boybands and romantic fiction. In February 2019, Abrahamsson began working on a 3-year postdoc project entitled ”What About Swedish Romance? Conventions and Communities in Contemporary Swedish Popular Romance”. The project is affiliated with the Danish research program Uses of Literature: The Social Dimensions of Literature, and will be implemented at the Department for the Study of Culture at the University of Southern Denmark and the Department for Ethnology, History of Religions and Gender Studies at Stockholm University.
