What does it cost to study at SDU?

Before submitting your application, you of course want to know about the financial aspects of studying at SDU. Find out about the most important costs to consider and which of them applies to your.

Tuition and other fees

Please choose your type of study programme below to see a full list of fees related to becoming a student at SDU. 

  • As a European citizen, studying at SDU will not involve any tuition fees or other fees directly related to your studies. 


  • As a non-EU/EEA citizen applying for admission to a full Bachelor's degree, you must expect to pay the following fees:

    • Tuition fee - for specific information on prices, exemptions and terms and payment visit Tuition fees. 
    • Application fee if applying for a student residence permit. Please refer to the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration at  www.nyidanmark.dk for more information about the proces. 
    • A fee to the consulate and/or VFS Global centre, if applying for residence from outside of Denmark. Please refer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website on on www.um.dk. 

  • As a non-EU/EEA citizen applying for admission to a full Master's degree programme, you should expect to pay the following fees:

    • Tuition fee - for specific information on prices, exemptions and terms and payment visit Tuition fees. 
    • Application fee when applying for admission - for more information and exemptions see Application fee.
    • Application fee if applying for a student residence permit. Please refer to the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration at  www.nyidanmark.dk for more information about the proces. 
    • A fee to the consulate and/or VFS Global centre, if applying for residence from outside of Denmark. Please refer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website on on www.um.dk.

  • Exchange students from SDU’s partner universities do not pay tuition fees at SDU.

    If you are a non EU/EEA citizen, you should still expect to pay the following fees:

    • Application fee when applying for a student residence permit. Please refer to the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration at  www.nyidanmark.dk for more information about the proces. 
    • A fee to the consulate and/or VFS Global centre, if applying for residence from outside of Denmark. Please refer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website on on www.um.dk.

  • As a guest student you must pay a tuition fee. The fee depends on your course of study, and whether you are an EU/EEA citizen or not.

    If you are a non EU/EEA citizen, you should also expect to pay the following fees:

    • Application fee when applying for a student residence permit. Please refer to the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration at  www.nyidanmark.dk for more information about the proces. 
    • A fee to the consulate and/or VFS Global centre, if applying for residence from outside of Denmark. Please refer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website on on www.um.dk.

Financial aids

Depending on your situation, you may be able to apply for financial aids to cover tuition and/or living costs. 

  • SU is a grant to help students with their monthly living costs. 

    Normally, you must be a Danish citizen to be entitled to SU. As a foreign citizen, however, you can apply for equal status with Danish citizens if you meet certain specific criteria.

  • SDU offers a very limited number of scholarships for non EU/EEA citizens. Only Master’s students in our Engineering programmes at Campus Sønderborg are eligible for a scholarship.
