Why did you choose this degree?:
I chose this degree for various reasons. First and foremost, when you have a Bachelor of Science in electronics there are plenty of good job options. But I was just very unsure of what type of job I wanted and there are different directions to take job wise with this degree – as an electrical engineer you can work with quite a lot of different things. So, I decided to do the master to become more certain with what I wanted to work with. At that time, I probably wasn’t ready for the labour market anyway. So, getting the master’s degree was an opportunity to learn even more and find out exactly what I wanted.

What is the most important thing you have learned during your study?:
It’s probably this about being allowed to work practically with things. We work much more in depth with the projects on the master than we did on the bachelor. You get much closer to how it is to develop a product in real life. Being allowed to execute many of these projects that we have during the study. I think that that have been the most important thing. The practical work that we have done.

How do you use your degree in your job?:
Today I am employed as a research assistant at University of Southern Denmark, so I get to work with the newest technologies before they reach the companies or before the companies dare spend money on exploring these thing. So, we work with the with these technologies and show what is possible to do with it. For me, that is definitely the most interesting thing. I get to develop quite modern solutions where we don’t have to think that much about following the standards as we are not developing products to sell. But we get to actually use these new technologies in a clever way.

A good advice for future students:
I think that it is to figure out what your interest is and then focus on that. There are many different directions to take this degree. But you can’t be the best at everything. So, I would say that you should find out where your interest is and then spend most of your time focusing on that. If you spend too much time on everything, you won’t become good at anything. I think that is the best advice.

The 3 three best things about your job/study

  • Being a part of innovation work – looking at new technologies for new products and stuff like that. And being a part of the solution to solve these electrification problems that we have if we want the green transition to work. That is what this master can do. You’re better prepared for this innovation work.
  • The projects that you have through your study. Every semester you have these 10 ECTS semester projects and the option do more projects than just that. It’s possible work on projects of your own choice and do a lot of project work if you want.
  • You get to work closely with the research environment at University of Southern Denmark. Many of the teachers are also researchers. That is also why I’ve ended up in this part of the industry because I became very interested in research during my master’s degree.
