With some 200,000 inhabitants, Odense is the third largest city in Denmark. It's name comes from Odin, chief of the ancient Viking gods.

Below, you can find useful information on the process of applying for accommodation in Odense.
Procedure for applying for and accepting the accommodation
Simply fill out the online application form at sduhousing.sdu.dk
The terms for application are stated in the application form. Please read the terms carefully before sending your application.
Please note that you must fill out the applicaiton yourself, using your own name. You should not ask your parents to fill it out on your behalf.
Deadline for applying for accommodation:
Autumn semester: May 1st
Spring semester: November 1st
Applications received after the deadline cannot be guaranteed accommodation.
However, we encourage you to apply for accommodation as soon as you have submitted your application to SDU, even if you are not sure you will be admitted. In case you do not get admitted, your application for accommodation will be cancelled automatically.
You will receive a confirmation via email when we have received your application.
If you have been admitted to SDU, but you have not received an offer for accommodation within 2 weeks after you have received your acceptance letter, please contact the Odense Accommodation Office at bolig@sdu.dk.
In the email with your offer for accommodation, you will find a link to be used for accepting or declining the offer online
Within a few days of accepting the offer for accommodation, you will receive an email with a Welcome Letter. In this letter, you can find more information on your accommodation, along with very important information on payment, contract and arrival. Therefore, it is very important that you read this letter carefully. If you miss a deadline for signing the contract or paying the deposit, you risk losing your accommodation and we will not necessarily be able to offer you anything else.
The Welcome Letter also contains important information on termination notice and moving-out inspection. Please read this informaiton carefully.
You will usually be asked to pay the first month's rent and the deposit one moth before you arrive. This should be paid by international bank transfer. You can find more information on when and how to pay the rent and deposit in the Welcome Letter that is sent to you when you have accepted the offer for accommodation.
Please note: If you find private accommodation on your own, we advise you not to pay the deposit or the first month’s rent until you have arrived in Odense.
If you leave Denmark for a period of time (eg. sabbatical leave, internship or exchange stay) we cannot guarantee new accommodation for you when you return to Denmark.
We will, of course, try to help you as best we can. If we find accommodation for you, please note that you cannot expect to get a room before February 15th for the spring semester. Many students have exams until the end of January and will not vacate the rooms before then. Due to this overlap, we will probably not be able to offer you an accommodation by February 1st.
If you are a returning student, please do not apply via the online application portal. Instead, you should write an e-mail to bolig@sdu.dk. Please state why you need an accommodation, when you need it, and how much you are able to pay each month, including utilities.
Accommodation options
Generally, you will be offered a single room in an off campus student hall or in a privately rented apartment or house.
In most cases, you will share kitchen and/or bathroom with one or more persons. You are likely to share kitchen and/or bathroom with a person of the opposite sex. On rare occasions, you may share kitchen and/or bathroom with a person who is not a student.
The rooms vary in size and are typically between 9-16 m2.
All accommodations have internet access.
The rent can be up to 4,000 DKK
All rooms are furnished with a bed, a desk, shelves, a chair and a lamp.
Linen and kitchen items
In some cases, linen and kitchen items will be provided free of charge by the landlord. If this is the case for your accommodation, it will say so in the Welcome Letter sent to you after your have accepted the offer for accommodation.
If linen and kitchen items are not provided by the landlord, the following applies for exchange and full-degree students:
- Exchange students: linen and kitchen items are not provided by SDU, and you must bring or buy this on your own.
- Full-degree students: SDU offers a linen bag and a kitchen box to all full-degree students. You do not have to apply or ask for this separately - the linen bag and kitchen box can be found in your accommodation when you arrive. The linen bag includes a bed pad, duvet, pillow, 2 sets of bedclothes, 2 towels and 2 bath towels, 2 wash cloths and a package of dish towels. The kitchen box includes plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, kitchen utensils, pots and pans
- Rasmus Raskkollegiet
640 rooms in an international environment, situated in the western part of Odense, 7 km to the University, 4 km to the centre of town. The largest student hall in the city. A mixture of Danish and international students at both bachelor and master level. You share a kitchen and bathroom with one other student – maybe of the opposite sex. Every room has internet access. The monthly rent including utilities is approx. 2,600 DKK.
Linen and kitchen items are not provided by the landlord, see more in the section "Furniture and equipment" above.
- H.C. Ørstedskollegium
520 rooms, 4 km from the centre of town, 1 km to the university. A mixture of Danish and international students at both master and bachelor level. You have your own bathroom and share kitchen with 14 other students. The monthly rent including utilities is approx. 2,200 DKK.

- Dalum Landbrugsskole - only for autuum semester
Located about 4 km from the centre of town, and 3-4 km from the university. Dalum Landbrugsskole, Academy of Agricultural Business, Denmark is an occupational college. The prices are maximum DKK 4.000 per month, including board.
Linen is provided by the landlord. No kitchen items are needed, as there is no kitchen. Three daily meals are included in the price of 4,000 DKK.
- Campus House- only for full degree students
Opened in 2015, the Campus House is a 14 story building located a 5 minute walk from the university. You will have your own room and share a common area and three kitchens with up to 24 Danish and international students. Rent including utilities is approx. 3,600 DKK per month. The use of a bike is included in the rent, but you must pay a deposit of 500 DKK.

- Private landlords - shared apartment/house
We offer a variety of privately rented rooms across Odense. You will have your own room, and will share 1-4 bathrooms and kitchens with 2-16 other students. So, in many cases, it is much like a dormitory or a student hall, just privately rented. The monthly rent is between 2,200 - 3,500 DKK.
In some of the privately rented apartments, linen and kitchen items will be provided by the landlord. If this is the case for your accommodation, it will say so in the Welcome Letter sent to you after your have accepted the offer for accommodation.
