Application process for exchange students

You should apply for housing soon after your application to SDU, even if you are not sure of being offered a study place. If you are not offered a study place at SDU, you will not receive an offer for housing.

To be guaranteed Student Housing you must apply before the deadline:

  • September admission: 1 May
  • February admission: 1 November

You apply for Student Housing by filling out an online application form at sduhousing.sdu.dk.

The process for receiving an offer will be different depending on whether you receive an offer for a room at Ungdomskollegiet or a sublet. Below, you can read more about the process for each.

However, similar for both cases is that you will receive an e-mail from SDU once it is time for you to do something. This will not happen until you have officially been accepted at SDU. Therefore, it may be quite some time from the time you make your application until you hear back from the Accommodation Office with an offer.

Process if you are offered a room at Ungdomskollegiet fra Studiebolig Syd

The SDU Accommodation Office will send your name and email to Studiebolig Syd, and confirm to them, that you are eligible for guaranteed housing.

Studiebolig Syd will then contact you and ask you to complete an application on their own website, so they have all the information needed to make an official housing offer and a contract for you. It takes about 5 minutes to complete an application. For good measures, the SDU Accommodation Office will also send you an e-mail to let you know when it is time to apply at Studiebolig Syd's website.

IMPORTANT: You will not receive an offer of Student Housing  from Studiebolig Syd until you have made an application on Studiebolig Syd’s website as explained above. If you fail to do so within the deadline specified by Studiebolig Syd in their e-mail to you, you will no longer be guaranteed housing.

When you have made the application on Studiebolig Syd’s website, they will send you an offer of accommodation. You can expect to hear from Studiebolig Syd regarding an offer of accommodation from 15 June for the fall semester and 15 November for the spring semester.

In the email with the offer of Student Housing, you will find a link, which you use to accept or decline the offer.

Remember to accept the offer, sign the contract, and pay the deposit and first month’s rent before the deadlines specified by Studiebolig Syd. If you do not, you will lose the accommodation, and they will not be able to offer you other accommodation.

Process if you are offered a sublet

You will receive an offer via e-mail directly from the SDU Accommodation Office. The deadline for responding to the offer will be within 6 days of receiving the offer. If you do not respond wihtin the deadline, the offer will be cancelled without further notice, and the Accommodation Office will not be able to offer you another accommodation

You can expect to receive this offer of accommodation from 1 June for the fall semester and 1 November for the spring semester.

If you accept the offer, you and the sublessor will finalize all the practicalities such as
