Postdoc in inequality in cancer

A position as postdoc is available at the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH), University of Southern Denmark, from May 1, 2019 or soon hereafter. The position is time-limited to 2 years. NIPH is situated in central Copenhagen.

The researcher will be expected to develop and conduct ethnographic and qualitative research within the field of inequality in cancer. More specifically the researcher will lead, develop and conduct a project focusing on how health care professionals perceive of and manage social differences between patients in the context of their daily work. The researcher will be part of COMPAS which is a national center for research in inequality in cancer.  

The researcher will get a leading role in developing and combining the research area theoretically and methodologically, and initiating new research initiatives. The position requires proficiency in Danish, since the research will take place in Denmark.   

The researcher will also be expected to develop his or her own research profile within the institute and COMPAS amongst other things via fundraising and scientific publication. In addition, the researcher will be expected to contribute to the institutional tasks within research, teaching and supervision. The researcher will work closely with researchers affiliated with the Department of Health and Social Context and the Centre for Intervention Research and will be part of the research group Health, social relations and structural conditions.

Expectations of qualifications

  • PhD degree in health, public health, sociology, anthropology or equivalent
  • Strong methodological skills and documented experience with conducting qualitative and ethnographic research, preferably in the field of cancer treatment and rehabilitation
  • Documented knowledge and research experiences within the fields of social inequality in health and cancer.
  • Knowledge and research experience in health communication
  • Experience with research dissemination, written and oral
  • Preferably experience in international research collaboration

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.
