Postdoc in Sensory and Consumer Science

Applications are invited for a position in Sensory and Consumer Science at SDU Innovation and Design Engineering, Department of Technology and Innovation, University of Southern Denmark in Odense. The position is available from May 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is funded by the European project “SHEALTHY” which focuses non-thermal physical technologies to preserve fresh and minimally processed fruit and vegetables (F&V). In the project, the postdoc position will initiate and conduct research on consumer perception of non-thermal technologies as well as sensory evaluation and consumer acceptance of F&V treated with mild-technologies. The successful applicant will have documented experience and interest in sensory science, and consumer research with an emphasis on quantitative methods.  

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • PhD in sensory science, consumer science, food science or a closely related field;
  • A proven track record of first authored publication in relevant journals;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
  • High motivation and work ethics, excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, independence, skills in efficient project planning and execution.

Additional qualifications (not mandatory) that will contribute to a positive evaluation:

  • Experience in conducting large-scale online surveys and/or with cross-cultural consumer research;
  • Previous research experience related to consumer perception of F&V;
  • Fluency in Danish.

Conditions of employment
The position is available for a 20-months period.

Employment is governed by the Protocol on PhD Research Fellows signed by the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

The main tasks for this position are to conduct research within the SHEALTHY project and disseminate results. A limited amount of research-based teaching and student supervision may be requested.

This position is subject to the entry into force of grant agreement no SHEALTHY – 817936 and thereby funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme.

Requirements for the position
Employment as a postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.

Applications will be assessed by an expert. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.

Shortlisting may be used. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an assessment panel.

An interview might be part of the assessment process.
