PhD Position in Nonlinear Quantum Optics with Ultracold Ytterbium

A PhD position is available in the Nonlinear Quantum Optics group (Associate Professor Sebastian Hofferberth), Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy. The project involves the realization of single-photon optical nonlinearities in a new experimental setup using ultracold Ytterbium. The candidate is expected to lead the experimental realization of this novel system, including the development of all required experiment components.

The applicant must have a strong background in quantum optics and atomic physics, such as an MSc in physics (5+3 programme).

The applicant is expected to have experience with experimental techniques such as ultracold atom preparation, single-photon detection, and Rydberg atom spectroscopy.
Ideally, the applicant should have passed a master-level advanced course in modern atomic physics, quantum optics or equivalent. These requirements must be clearly documented in the submitted CV, otherwise the application will not be considered. The candidate should be independent and able to communicate fluently in English, as well as possess good interpersonal skills. The expected start date is 1 September 2019. Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 10 November 2015 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
