Job Shadowing

What is a normal workday for an engineer in our local companies?

As a Job Shadower, you will follow a normal work day of an employee in a company already employing engineers or planning to employ engineers in the future. You will have a chance to:

  • Get an insight into his or her tasks and how they are solved
  • Enhance your network

  • Use your skills in a real life situation

  • Get advice from a potential employer

  • Get inspiration for your future working life

The day will be planned to make your visit to the company as successful as possible. Prior to your Job Shadowing day, you will be equipped to meet the company at an event aimed at helping you get the maximum benefit from your Job Shadowing.
After your meeting with the company, you will have the opportunity to sign up for a coaching session with a consultant at SDU Business about your experience, and whether it has provided you with new perspectives on education and career.

Participating Companies 2017

Who can participate?

Bachelor students in their 2nd term of the Mechatronic course who have joined the project “Engineering Students to Sønderborg” (Ingeniørstuderende til Sønderborg) and there are some places for 2nd semester Master students as well.

How to become a Job Shadower?

You will get access to the list of registered companies and employees who are participating in Job Shadowing.
When you sign up, you will be asked to make a prioritized list of employees, you would like to shadow. When the registration deadline has passed, we will try to match the wishes of the students with the companies/employees, who have signed up. We will then send both of you an email with information and contact info.
Your transport costs will be reimbursed.

A student's impressions

"For the job shadowing i went to Linak. An engineer from R&D guided me through the day. In the morning he presented me to all his colleagues in the department [...]. In the afternoon he showed me the different parts of the company (i.e. the production area,...) and I spent the rest of the afternoon in R&D, talking to the people there. They told me their opinion on how it is to work for Linak and explained the jobs that they were doing there. It was a really interesting day, full of positives outcomes!" - Matteo Baggio (Msc in Mechatronics)
