Our research theme covers a broad spectrum of electronics and magnetoelectronics. We perform both experimental characterisation and theoretical analysis of the electronic/magnetoelectronic properties of various materials and devices. Our current research efforts are mainly devoted to studying the electronic properties of low-cost lab-grown diamond thin-films, which are wide-bandgap semiconductors with combined extraordinarily high thermal conductivity and tuneable electronic properties upon doping. Lab-grown diamond thin-films show great promises in next generation electronics, especially in high-power high-frequency electronic devices.
Based on our state-of-the-art fabrication (via NanoSYD), characterisation techniques and solid background knowledge in semiconductor physics, solid state physics, microelectronics and nanotechnology, we have world-class competencies in:
- Micro/nanofabrication of electronic and magnetoelectronic devices
- Ultra-low noise measurements of the electronic and magnetoelectronic properties of micro/nanofabricated devices and materials in different forms (thin-films or bulk)
- Both descriptive and qualitative analysis of the electronic/magnetoelectronic properties of various materials and the electronic/magnetoelectronic performances of relevant devices.
Test & measurement
- Characterisation of electrical transport properties of various electronic and magnetoelectronic materials under different conditions (temperature: from 0.3 K up to room temperature, magnetic fields: 0-8.5 T)
- Measurement of Hall effect in electronic and magnetoelectronic materials for the determination of the type, concentration and mobility of charge carriers (temperature: from 0.3 K up to room temperature, magnetic fields: 0-8.5 T)
