Strategic research focus areas

Drone hovering in the air

Shortly after the turn of the century, SDU chose to focus on robotics research, and we have worked closely with industry and foundations to create value for society with regards to development, production, jobs, etc.
The focused efforts have produced results.

Today, Funen is an internationally recognised development centre for robotics. Notably, Universal Robots - a company that started off in the University’s basement - was sold for DKK 1.9 billion in 2015.

Research strengthens clusters

The robot cluster is a cluster that works - with over 80 companies and 2,200 employees. We know that clusters containing high-tech companies benefit from having strong links to local research communities.
In 2016, we selected three new beacon projects in which SDU has a notable opportunity to create value for society:

New ideas lead to growth

In the coming years, we will focus on developing solutions and knowledge within all three areas, which can then be utilised by both private and public companies.

This interaction can lead to growth and prosperity in our region and in the rest of the country.
