Green Power Electronics Test – PhD project  (Green PET-PhD)

The aim of the project is to create growth in the Region of Southern Denmark through developing an internationally recognized state-of-the-art competence center in power electronic systems and testing placed in Sønderborg. Green PET-PhD project is supposed to promote efficient product development, so the enterprises will have a strong position as manufacturer of energy efficient products, which will also have a significant impact on the reduction of CO2 emission.

The purpose of the project is to support:

  1. Compliance of the national and global objectives for implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements
  2. Global competition on development of more reliable and energy efficient products
  3. Regional development and competitiveness of companies within test and power electronic design
  4. The creation of a unique new research environment for power electronic systems and testing at the University of Southern Denmark
  5. Reduction of product development time by establishing the power electronics environment in Sønderborg that ensures state of the art knowledge close to the business development departments.

The research subjects of the project are related to advanced methods for designing, modeling, measuring and testing of modern power electronic circuits with ultra-fast switching. The activities are conducted in close collaboration between leading Danish industrial partners and the University of Southern Denmark addressing the following research topics:

  1. Analysis and demonstration of fundamental feasibility of designing motor emulator that reproduces field situations and perform product failure analysis. The research topic is addressed within two sub-projects:
    1. Advanced modelling of electro-motor loads
    2. High frequency three-phase electronic load
  2. Magnetic components
  3. Modelling, design and optimization of electromagnetic components used in RFI filters

Partners of the project are Mads Clausen Institute and Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute at the University of Southern Denmark, CLEAN, DELTA, Danfoss, Lodam, OJ Electronics, and Banke Accessory Drives that are regularly meeting in order to follow the progress of the project and to exchange knowledge.

The project will invite for workshops where results and knowledge gained in the project will be disseminated to interested companies and organisations.
