The OPV group at SDU NanoSYD is doing research and development of next generation flexible organic solar cells including their upscaling from lab to roll-to-roll (R2R) scale. Power conversion efficiency
The OPV group works from a lab-to-fab principle, where lab scale developments are transferred to large scale without modifying the fabrication technology. This is possible through the combined infrastructure of R2R slot-die coating systems, R2R vacuum sputter systems and R2R lamination tools. This also includes integration of efficiency enhancing upconversion layers and nanostructures.
To minimise the degradation of the cells, we propose the integration of stabilising additives that are specifically designed towards suppressing photooxidative processes that take place in organic solar cells under operation. In addition, interface engineering for improved device stability is another focus area in the group.
Scalability of production
Due to our unique R2R production facility at SDU NanoSYD, the aforementioned solutions can all be transferred from a lab to fab scale, thus targeting low cost printing of efficient and stable OPV modules in a high-speed mass production process.
We offer companies the following services accelerating their R&D activities within photovoltaics:
- Development of different solar cell devices and module architectures
- Identification of strategies for improving stability of organic and hybrid PV technologies
- Development of procedures for upscaling of organic and hybrid PV modules using industrially relevant roll-to-roll (R2R) processes
- Test and assessment of PV devices and modules
- Provision of a complete set of optical analytical techniques that involve assessment of optical properties, chemical composition as well as photophysical properties of thin-films and PV devices
- Provision of a complete set of electrical characterisation techniques that allow for probing the performance and quantum efficiency of devices along with the conductivity and resistivity of thin-films as well as electrical mobility of new materials.
