Professor Steen Bonnema receives DKK 5 mill. from the Danish Ministry of Health for the project MAGNOLIA. The overall purpose of Steen Bonnema's project is to increase quality-of-life by improving “patient empowerment” in relation to hypothyroidism
Patients with hypothyroidism ask for methods and tools by which they can feel more comfortable with the disease, and gain a greater feeling of "self-control". Thus, the overall purpose of Steen Bonnema's project is to increase the patients' quality-of-life by improving “patient empowerment” in relation to the disease.
The project – named MAGNOLIA - includes 100 patients with permanent hypothyroidism, all residing in the Region of Southern Denmark. The patient included must experience a significantly reduced self-perceived quality-of-life attributed to the disease.
The project involves a broad collaboration, including Center for Functional Disorders at Odense University Hospital, the endocrinology departments / sections in Region of Southern Denmark, the region's general practitioners, representatives of the patient association (“Stofskifteforeningen”), and the municipalities within the region.
The project is implemented over the next 3 years, and cand.cur. Stephanie Vierø is leading the project.
