Neurodevelopmental disabilities affect millions of children worldwide. Although the causes are only partly understood, the number of industrial chemicals known to injure the developing brain has doubled in the past 7 years. The authors of a Review published in The Lancet Neurology have called for a coordinated international approach to control the silent pandemic of developmental neurotoxicity, including mandatory and transparent assessment of untested chemicals for evidence for neurotoxicity, followed by governmental regulation and market intervention.
