Genetics of Healthy Aging (GeHA)

The Genetics of Healthy Ageing Study is an European initiative financed by the EU in the following countries: Denmark, Finland, United Kingdom, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Greece, Poland and Ukraine. Data collection began in October 2004 and was completed in April 2008. Also in this study participants were siblings of at least 90 years of age at the time of assessment, and they were examined in their own homes.

The data coordination center was located in the SDU in DK. A total of 2,650 families throughout Europe were recruited for the study. In Denmark, 451 families (or 960 individuals) participated. In addition, 451 randomly chosen controls (one per family) participated.

The dataset consists of information about: Family, Socio-Demographic conditions, Education, Occupation, Psychological and Physical Health, Medications, Hospitalizations, Activities of Daily Living (ADL), Living Habits and Depression Symptoms. Physical abilities were tested by means of Chair Stand Test, Gait Speed Test and Grip Strength Test. Anthropometric measures were captured and Standardized Mini-Mental State Examination (SMMSE) was performed. In addition, blood for biological variables was collected.
