Terms and conditions for changing the position and implementation statement

The position and implementation statement will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

  • The ICEC group will conduct a review of all individual statements with implementation contained within the document when necessary or once every three years. This will ensure that the document is reflecting the highest standard of chiropractic education.
  • The ICEC group will hold an annual online meeting with an agenda and action points noted.
  • Changes to the position and implementation statement will follow a modified Delphi procedure where each vote will require an 70% majority of the eligible responding signatories to be accepted.

22-12-2022. Addition of  'Implementation Statements' for each Position on Chiropractic Education

The steering group has developed an implementation statement for each position on chiropractic education. This was agreed in the autumn of 2022 during a modified Delphi-study where all the signatories participated. The implementation statements were agreed in round one with 75-100% agreement among the responding signatories, and with a cut-off point of 70%, the implementation statements were added to the position statement.

02-02-2021. Change to statement 5

Original wording:

"The teaching of vertebral subluxation complex as a vitalistic construct that claims that it is the cause of disease is unsupported by evidence. Its inclusion in a modern chiropractic curriculum in anything other than an historical context is therefore inappropriate and unnecessary."

New wording:

“The teaching of vertebral subluxation complex as a vitalistic construct that claims or implies that it is the cause of or contributes to disease is unsupported by evidence. Its inclusion in a modern chiropractic curriculum in anything other than an historical context is therefore inappropriate and unnecessary.”
