Pain emanating from the thoracic spine is common but has largely been neglected in terms of epidemiological and clinical research. In addition, evidence suggests that pain from the thoracic spine may inflict a similar personal and societal burden as back and neck pain. A systematic review of Medline and Scopus revealed no published studies on the development of outcome measures specific for the thoracic spine. To fill this void this study endeavour to develop and validate a new functional outcome measures for adolescent and adult patients with thoracic spinal problems.
