Prevention and treatment of knee and hip osteoarthritis

Projects aim at identifying the role of muscle function and exercise in knee injury and osteoarthritis prevention and treatment. In some projects the hip is also targeted.

Some of the projects use meniscectomized patients as a model to study the onset of knee osteoarthritis and the effect of exercise and surgery as treatment, while other projects focus on patients with established disease.

Another interest is to optimize the effect from exercise by manipulating the physical surroundings when exercising.

Projects involve national and international collaborators with backgrounds in physiotherapy, orthopaedic surgery, primary care, rheumatology, and sports science.
