COPD - also known as smoker´s lung - is a growing problem in Denmark and the disease ranks today as the fifth leading cause of death in Denmark. COPD is a very unpleasant disease because the patient slowly experience breathing problems. A new research project will in the upcoming years explore new ways of optimizing the treatment of COPD - chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - from transgenic animal models via clinical studies to economical outcome of enhanced monitoring of progress and treatment of disease by novel biomarkers.
