This workshop is for anyone who wants to learn more about the process of publishing essays in international English language journals in the humanities. Niels Bohr Prof. Rita Felski (SDU) has been editor of New Literary History for eight years and was previously associate editor of NLH, a co-editor of Feminist Theory, and a manuscript reviewer for many other journals. Over the last thirty years she has read thousands of essay submissions. This workshop will go behind the scenes, explain how editors think, and demystify the process of submitting essays to academic journals.
Structure of the workshop:
-Rita Felski will give a presentation on key issues: selecting a journal, criteria for acceptance; the "what?" and "so what?" questions; which conversation are you joining?; balancing originality with reference to other scholars; the importance of the first page
-Questions and discussion: participants will share tips, success stories, war stories, horror stories
-A presentation by Postdoc Patrick Fessenbecker (SDU) on his experience in submitting articles for publication
The workshop will be in English.
