Back to the fairytale (2003-5)

The foundation of the development of the modern science of narrative texts (narratology) has to a great extent been the folktale. Classical scientific works such as Vladimir Propp's Morphology of the Folktale (1928) and A. J. Greimas' Structural Semantics (1966) develop generic models on the basis of studies in this genre among others, which were later transferred to other narrative genres - which encompass novels, short stories as well as movies, advertisements, reports, computer games etc.

As a contribution to the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen, we focussed on the narrative challenge in Andersen's fairytales including a conference in 2003 and a bookpublication in 2005.
