Innovation in agricultural and food enterprises in rural areas

We will examine this for the next three years and i.a. create tools for contributing to the development in rural areas and outskirts.

We will analyse 15 innovative initiatives within experience economy and farming, food firms, non-food and energy and study in depth what creates innovation across sectors. The study also clarifies the effect on the regional economy and employment.

The single case examples are not designated yet, but the emphasis will be on geographic spread, large and small enterprises and initiatives with and without connection to knowledge institutions and with and without public funding.

CLF’s contractual partner is Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (University of Aarhus) and Institute of Food and Resource Economics (University of Copenhagen). As the purpose of the research very much should be put into practice, the Danish Agricultural Advisory Service (DAAS) and Center for Food Technology & Innovation (VIFU) in Holstebro will also take an active part.

The project includes one of five projects in the research program ‘the future role and development of farming and food sector seen in a regional perspective’ and runs from 2007 to 2010. The project has received EUR 600,000 from the Directorate for Food, Fisheries and Agri Business.
