Additional Information on the Academy Council

An Academy Council is elected at each faculty.

The Academy Council serves to:
• Award PhD and doctorate degrees
• Recommend to Rector, or the person authorised by him, the composition of expert assessment committees which will assess applicants for academic positions
• Report to Rector, or the person authorised by him, on the internal distribution of funds
• Report to Rector, or the person authorised by him, on central, strategic research and educational areas and plans for knowledge exchange

The Academy Council draws up Rules of Procedure, for approval by Rector, within the framework of the Standard Rules of Procedure.

Each Academy Council comprises a Chairman and nine members:
• Ex-officio member is the Dean, who is also chairman
• Six representatives are elected by and among the faculty’s academic staff and teachers, including PhD students employed by the faculty (election group I)
• Three representatives are elected by and among the faculty students (election group III)
• Two representatives are elected as observers by and among the faculty’s technical-administrative personnel (election group II)
• The term of office for members elected in election group I and for observers is four years. For members elected in election group III the term of office is one year
Elections take place in accordance with the rules set by the board under section 38.
