Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF or DG (Danmarks Grundforskningsfond))

The Danish National Research Foundation supports large, basic research initiatives within any scientific discipline. The main funding instrument of the foundation is the Center of Excellence grant. This grant is the most prestigous one in the Danish public funding realm and is worth 30-80 million DKK. The Centers of Excellence are headed by a highly and internationally renowned professor forming a collaboration with other strong group leaders. The team normally has the unique and complementary knowledge needed to solve a large and burning research question. The Center of Excellence grant is normally offered every second year.

Besides the Center of Excellence, the foundation also has a instrument for recruiting highly acclaimed scientists to the Danish research environment. This instrument is called the DNRF Chair. Only scientists nominated by their hosting university will be taken into account for DNRF Chair grant.
