Funding opportunities

The Danish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education
International Network Programme - Fifth call for proposals for bilateral network activities in the R&D with China, India, Israel, Japan, USA, Brazil and the Republic of Korea
The call welcomes applications for the following activities: Scientific workshops and conferences with participation of researchers, scientists, research experts and PhD-students from Denmark and from one or more of the selected countries; and travel between Denmark and the selected countries in order to identify potential for new collaborative projects and partnerships.

The CMS Fundamental Physics Scholarship Committee, CERN (Geneva, Switzerland)
The CMS Fundamental Physics Scholarship
This is an opportunity for outstanding young CMS researchers to enhance their research goals by spending a year at CERN. The scholarship provides research support opportunities and interaction with CMS physics management. Financial assistance will be granted to help offset the expenses of full-time residency at CERN.

Danish National Research Foundation
8th application round
The 8th application round for new Centers of Excellence starting 1 January 2015 is now open. New centers may be established within and across all research areas. The application process consists of two stages. In the first stage, prospective center leaders are invited to submit short outline proposals.

Deadline for submitting outline proposals: Monday 25 November 2013 at noon


Information meeting
Danish National Research Foundation will visit SDU on Friday 23 August.

Thomas Sinkjær, director of The Danish National Research Foundation, will visit SDU to inform potential applicants about the foundation’s Centers of Excellence. Sinkjær will explain the details of the application- and the selection process, and he will answer questions.

Time: Friday August 23 2013, 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Place: O100, Campusvej, Odense

Scientists from all research fields are encouraged to participate.
Registration is not necessary.


The Novo Nordisk Foundation
Grants for Medical and Natural Science research
Grants are available to projects in Denmark, primarily within the fields of basic biomedical research, translational research and clinical research. Grants are available for equipment, consumables, and salaries for post-docs and technical assistance but not for PhD students. Funding for up to three years can be applied for. If funding is granted for more than one year, additional funding will not be given as long as the grant is active. The amounts requested must be between DKK 300.000 and 700.000 per year. Applications requesting funding outside these limits will not be processed.

Information meeting
The Novo Nordisk Foundation will visit SDU on Friday 6 September 

The Novo Nordisk Foundation’s medical- and natural science committee awards grants and project funding to biomedical research in the broad sense in Denmark. The Committee wishes to ensure that the best biomedical researchers are submitting applications for support to their best projects, and therefore the committee would like to disseminate knowledge of the foundation and its instruments in the scientific communities. In week 36, representatives from the committee will visit Danish Research institutions to inform about the foundation’s awards and answer questions from future applicants.

The Canon Foundation in Europe
Research Fellowships to Japan

The Canon Foundation in Europe offers Research Fellowships to highly qualified European and Japanese researchers holding a doctorate or at least a Master’s degree regardless of discipline. They are eligible during the ten-year period following the successful completion of their Ph.D. or MA degree.

European Fellowship holders pursue their research period in Japan and Japanese do their research period in Europe. The Fellowships are awarded for periods of minimum three months and maximum one year. Financial support for Fellows ranges between 22.500 to 27.500 Euros per year and pro-rata for different periods.

The European Science Foundation
Call for conference proposals

The European Science Foundation invites researchers to submit proposals for high-level research conferences to take place in 2015 within the framework of its Research Conferences Scheme in the following scientific domain:
Molecular Biology+

In the framework of their partnership, ESF and EMBO jointly fund multidisciplinary conferences to promote links between molecular biologists and other scientists in Europe, giving them an opportunity to discuss common themes and exchange cross-disciplinary results.
Successful proposals will be organised within the framework of the ESF Research Conferences Scheme and will be awarded a conference grant of up to EUR 30.000.

Submission deadline: Tuesday 1 October 2013


For the calendar: SDU Horizon2020 Week 19-21 November

University of Southern Denmark marks the beginning of EU’s new research programme Horizon2020 by three intensive days: 19-21 November. SDU Horizon2020 Week is relevant to everyone interested in EU-funding.

The initiative comprises sessions on funding schemes within each of the three programme pillars: societal challenges, excellent science and industrial leadership – with lots of opportunities for discussion and learning from council members, evaluators and grantees. Therefore, if you are interested in EU-funding, do add these dates to your calendar and exploit this unique opportunity to get below the surface of the world’s largest research funding programme.
