The buildings at SDU come in various shapes and sizes, and alarm procedures therefore differ.

Ordinary safety signs are used at SDU to provide instructions and guidance on an everyday basis and in specific emergencies. Emergency equipment, special danger zones (e.g. areas where there are pressurised cylinders), escape routes, etc., are examples of the safety information on signs in the form of universally recognised pictograms.

Safety information is also provided on the other information signs as a normal part of information provision at the university and make it unnecessary to look for information elsewhere. The integration of safety information with everyday information creates a sense of security, ensures familiarity with the information and that it is regularly updated. The signs have a uniform appearance as students and staff often move between the various university buildings. Clear, uniform signs mean that the quantity of emergency equipment can be limited because the unambiguous set-up, especially via 'Safety points', makes it easier to find the relevant equipment.
