Topping-out Ceremony at the Faculty of Engineering

The roof is nearing completion on the building, which in the future will be housing the University of Southern Denmark’s engineering students. The new Faculty of Engineering is contrived by the internationally renowned architect, Anna Maria Indrio.

Approximately a year after the first sod was cut, workmen have begun closing the roof on the 19,000 square-foot building which from next year will be housing 2,600 engineering students.

On Thursday 10 April, the topping-out ceremony is held for the new building in which the Faculty of Engineering will reside in 2015. Today, two kilometres separate the faculty from the rest of the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, but in the future the engineers will fuse with the rest of the university.

Knight behind the Faculty of Engineering
The building is designed by the internationally renowned architect Anna Maria Indrio from the architectural firm C.F. Møller. She has been knighted in both Denmark and Italy for her unique architecture. She is also the creative mind behind the renovation of the d’Angleterre in Copenhagen. And the new Faculty of Engineering will be yet another masterpiece.

The architecture behind the new building embraces the original University of Southern Denmark but also creates its own futuristic look. Some parts of the façade will be covered in a net which resembles soap bubbles of various sizes. These curves help bring light, air and space into the building.

Massive staircase used as sculpture
Several significant elements will dominate the 19,000 square-foot Faculty of Engineering. When you step inside the building, you are met by an enormous staircase which is called ‘The Furniture’. The staircase functions like a sculpture, stretching its way through the building and thus becomes a natural and exciting gathering point.
Located beneath the grand staircase are seminar- and conference-rooms. The building itself consists of two floors with mixed office spaces, project work-places and the most modern laboratories.

The topping-out ceremony takes place Thursday 10 April 2014 at 2 pm at the construction site, University of Southern Denmark, Campusvej 55.
