Researchers from SDU BSS have been awarded DKK 45 million from the Carlsberg Foundation

This year’s grants from the Carlsberg Foundation have just been awarded, and this year as many as nine researchers at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences have received grants giving them the opportunity to pursue answers to the scientific questions they want to explore.

All in all, the nine researchers will receive DKK 45 million. The topics of the projects range from creativity throughout life to technological sovereignty in European defence.

Among the grants are two Semper Ardens Accomplish grants of more than DKK 12 million. The Semper Ardens Accomplish grants are awarded to internationally recognised professors to carry out innovative and ambitious research projects. The two grant recipients are Professor Karol J. Borowiecki from the Department of Economics and Professor Ingvild Bode from the Department of Political Science and Public Management.

In addition, Associate Professor Marie-Pier Bergeron Boucher from the Interdisciplinary Centre on Population Dynamics (CPop) and Associate Professor Stefanie Sohn from the Department of Business and Sustainability both receive a Semper Ardens Accelerate grant of more than DKK 6 million. These grants are awarded to associate professors to create and strengthen their own research groups or research environments.

Semper Ardens Accomplish

• Karol J. Borowiecki, professor at the Department of Economics, has been awarded DKK 12,977,800 for the project: The Age of Creativity: Understanding How Creativity Persists into Later Life

• Professor Ingvild Bode from the Department of Political Science and Public Management has been awarded DKK 12,777,700 for the project: Becoming Tech Sovereign? Tech Ecosystems in Defence and Europe’s Technological Sovereignty (TechSov)

Semper Ardens Accelerate

• Associate Professor Marie-Pier Bergeron Boucher from CPop has been awarded DKK 6,951,000 for the project: The tree of lifespan: How the length of life branches across social determinants of health

• Associate Professor Stefanie Sohn from the Department of Business and Sustainability has been awarded DKK 6,459,800 for the project: Consumers on the Frontline: Rethinking Cybersecurity in the Marketplace (CoCYBER)

Monograph Fellowships

• Professor Nicole Richter from the Department of Business and Management has been awarded DKK 1,214,000 for the monograph: Human-AI Collaboration and Leadership in Teams

• Associate Professor Martin Lindhardt from the Department of Political Science and Public Management has been awarded DKK 977,000 for the monograph: Mediating Money: The Social Life of Coins and Bills in Tanzania’s Spiritual Market

• Associate Professor Chiara De Franco from the Department of Political Science and Public Management has been awarded DKK 935,000 for the monograph: Human Protection in the Wake of Order: Assembling Agents, Rationalities and Practices

Digital Research Infrastructure

• Associate Professor Pantelis Pipergias Analytis from the Department of Business and Management has been awarded DKK 1,647,200 for the project: Datasets for studying competitive selection processes

• Professor Paul Sharp from the Department of Economics has been awarded DKK 1,310,000 for the project: A Digital Infrastructure for Danish Trade and Tariff Statistics, 1830–2000 (DANTRADE)

Overall, SDU has received DKK 93 million from the Carlsberg Foundation in this year’s grant round.
