SDU’s sustainability efforts over the past year have gained international recognition with the latest list from Green Metric, which annually maps and ranks almost 1,000 universities from around the world according to how sustainable they are.

SDU ranks 11th on the list, which is up one spot from last year’s ranking of no. 12.

In total, SDU has received 8,675 points out of a maximum of 10,000, which is 300 points up from last year. That’s just 25 points from nos. 7-10 on the Top 10 list. All of these have achieved 8,700 points.

A pat on the back for everyone at the University

The overall score considers all aspects of the University’s sustainability efforts. According to Sebastian Mernild, Prorector of SDU and Professor of Climate Change, it is therefore gratifying to see that the University has maintained its ranking among the very best.

This goes to show that SDU’s sustainability efforts have gained ground across the entire organisation.

- Our efforts also make us a sustainable university from an international perspective, and it is not just the work of a small group that is being gauged here. The praise and recognition must go to both researchers, administrative staff and not least our study environments, which have shown the greatest progress in terms of points compared to 2020, Sebastian Mernild says.

SDU works strategically with sustainability and will next year establish a climate centre which, through interdisciplinary and external collaborations, will create the academic foundation for decision-makers when it comes to responding to climate change.
