Application for enrolment as an Industrial PhD student

An Industrial PhD project is a special, industry-related PhD research project performed during the course of three years between a private or public enterprise, an Industrial PhD student and a university. As a supplement to the academic environment, a public research institution can be attached to the project – what is known as a third party - either at the company in question or at the university. Industrial PhD students are employed at the company and enrolled at the university. ´

Applications to the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation must be written in collaboration with the potential university supervisor, who has obtained the acceptance of the Head of Department in advance that he/she can be made available as a supervisor and that the project is in line with the department's research profile.

An Industrial PhD project must be approved both by the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation and the PhD School at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences before enrolment can take place and before the project can begin.

Applications for approval of an Industrial PhD project must be made on an E-application form from the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation. The E-application form and application deadlines can be downloaded here.

The application must be evaluated by the PhD School's respective course committees before it is forwarded to the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation in order to quality-assure the application and thereby support the applicant's project and increase the probability that it will be accepted as an Industrial PhD project. The application must be the PhD School to hand no later than a month before the expiry of the application deadline at the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation.

An application to the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation can be forwarded when the relevant course committee has evaluated it. The course committee's evaluation can be enclosed with the application to the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation.

Enrolment can take place when:

  • The PhD School has received the letter of acceptance from the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation,
  • Research Counselling at the University of Southern Denmark has forwarded the agreement and
  • The Head of PhD School has approved the recommendation of the course committee.

Enrolment can take place from the 1st or 15th of a month. Applicants cannot be enrolled with retrospective effect.
