English grammar in context: Clear and fluent academic writing

Course description:
The goal of this course is to help you sharpen your writing skills in English for academic purposes. The focus is on optimizing sentence structure and sequence and on grammar and vocabulary that will make your writing clear, concise and appropriate for the target audience.

Participants are required to submit a sample of their academic writing (e.g. study protocol or draft manuscript) to the course tutors at least two weeks before the start of the course.

Participants will gain confidence and competence in writing scientific texts in English. You will learn some strategies for expressing your intended meaning in English and for reflecting on your own writing style.

The course is built up around central writing topics and will comprise interactive lectures, group work and individual writing practice. Topics include sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, use of active and passive voice, nominalizations, and academic vocabulary and style.

The course is free of charge for PhD students enrolled at The Faculty of Health Sciences, The University of Southern Denmark.
For PhD students enrolled in Universities that have joined the "Open market agreement" there is a course fee covering course materials: DKK 569,-
For other participants there is a course fee of DKK 5580,-
