Applied statistics in oncology

The Graduate Programme for Haematology & Oncology

Content and aim:

The course will contain elements especially relevant to statistics in clinical cancer research and the course requires basic knowledge from Biostatistics I, whereas Biostatistics II is recommended. Topics in the course will be:                                                                                 
 - Trial planning - phase I, II and III
- Interpretation of survival data
- What is the meaning of a p-value?
- The risk of false-positive results
- Is multivariate analysis the right solution?
- The importance of prior probability

Beside regular lectures the student will be presented with cases that they will solve in groups and present to the rest of the students.

Literature will be distributed by Blackboard, the platform for e-learning at University of Southern Denmark. In due time, participants will be informed via email that the platform for this seminar has been opened.

The course is free of charge for PhD students enrolled in Universities that have joined the "Open market agreement".
as well as employees at the Faculty of Health sciences at the University of Southern Denmark.
For other participants there is a course fee of DKK 3337,-
