Aim and content:
This course facilitates the writing up of qualitative health research for publication.
By exploring the characteristics of different forms of academic writing based on qualitative health research, you will
learn how to communicate your research clearly, accurately and concisely. We will
• examine key aspects of writing up qualitative research, such as: the structure of different academic articles
and monographs based on qualitative data; the content and structure of e.g. abstracts, introduction,
methods and discussion sections, as well as whole texts
• reflect on and practice how to construct effective paragraphs and clear sentences
• discuss how to avoid ’plagiarism by mistake’
• consider and practice strategies of ’getting going’ and ’keeping going’ with different writing tasks
• identify journals suitable for planned articles and examine ’guidelines for authors’
• look at how to ’read’ and respond to comments and feedback from peers, supervisors and reviewers
• share practical tips on how to edit and revise work in progress

groups, participant-observation, literature studies); other academics in the process of writing qualitative research
based outputs are also welcome.
