Research line A: Social and behavioral determinants of health
This research line aims at identifying socio-economic and behavioural determinants of health and well-being in order to better understand health inequalities. Our research includes studies at societal, community and individual levels to establish baselines for public health and health promotion interventions. We also aim to contribute to theory development to explain inequalities and social vulnerability in health within various social contexts and settings.

Research line B: Effective interventions to promote health in different settings
This research line has its starting point in people’s subjective beliefs about health, health risks and health behaviors, such as risk perceptions, attitudes towards health behaviors or self-efficacy expectations. Research projects within this area investigate how different population groups - from healthy adolescents to chronically ill elderly patients – perceive of health and health risks, how these perceptions affect their everyday functioning, their health and health behaviors, and how the understanding of these processes can be used most effectively to design health and health risk communication interventions to promote health and well-being.

Research line C: Health in All Policies
This research line has its starting point in policies. Policies on international, national, regional and local levels influence health of the citizens and communities. The main research themes deal with analyzing how recent policies influence future health of the population; mapping and developing methods to assess health impact of policies; studying and developing knowledge exchange between researchers, policy makers and practitioners in the area of health promotion both in Denmark and internationally. Further, the research line is actively involved in global health for example by studying influence of globalization on health.
