Abstract: The so-called Golden Age of the welfare state closely interlinked to dramatic changes in family patterns in Denmark. Women entered the labor market, family policies were expanded (e.g. daycare and parental leave schemes), and gender roles were politicized. In short, we find a development from the traditional nuclear family with a male provider towards a gender equal double-income family. Even though this was a dramatic change that affected all citizens, we know very little about how this was experienced. With the exception of a few pioneering groups such as the feminist movement. The “Our History” (Vores Historie) project address this lacuna of knowledge from a citizen science perspective taking advantage of that we can still ask the people who lived through the “family revolution” about their experiences. In the presentation, I will present the background for this project and how we have approached it in an ongoing pilot-version. We have in cooperation with Danish high school teachers developed an educational module where the high school students do life story interviews and we collect these afterwards. The plan is to continue this on a national scale allow us to collect unique qualitative data on how people have experienced the changing role(s) of the family and how it has influenced their life choices. We are especially interested in the variety of experiences.

The meeting will be held in SAM Meeting room M / V17-109a-2 and  online via Zoom.
