The study revisits frailty models of adult mortality aiming to estimate separately the senescent and non-senescent components of the distribution of deaths. The senescent component aids estimating more accurately, among others, the rate of individual aging, hypothesized to be constant by Vaupel (2010). The non-senescent component reveals the age-specific contribution of non-aging-related deaths to overall mortality, and how this relationship evolves over time.
