About the project

Sustainable Futures for New Generations of Farmers is a new research project at the University of Southern Denmark, led by Vincent Charles Keating and Egon Bjørnshave Noe. The project is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation through the programme Project Grants Supporting Societal Learning for the Green Transition – 2024, and is carried out in collaboration with LandboUngdom, Den Grønne Ungdomsbevægelse, and L&F Centrovice.

The aim of the project is to investigate how young farmers’ identities and values can strengthen the acceptance of green policy initiatives in the agricultural sector. While public debate often focuses on technological solutions, this project turns attention toward the social and cultural dimensions of the green transition.

Through qualitative interviews, focus groups, scenario workshops, and a national conference, the project seeks to develop new pathways toward sustainable agricultural practices—grounded in the perspectives and communities of young farmers themselves. The ambition is to lay the foundation for a greener future in which young farmers are not just adapting to change, but actively shaping it.
