Peripheral Localities and Innovation Policies (PLIP)

Partial view of a modern building with metal cladding and roof overhangs against an overcast sky.
The objective of the PLIP project was partly to compare local innovation policy in the Nordic countries, and partly to examine the significance of locating enterprises in peripheral localities. The project was designed to find good political practices and the essential conditions for their succes in the peripheral areas.

The project can be followed on the project's special homesite here

The objectives of PLIP were:

  • to examine the difference and similarities of local and national innovation policies between the Nordic countries from the point of view of peripheral areas
  • to study transferability of the good innovation policy practices between peripheral Nordic localities
  • to transfer experiences of good practices into new contexts in other Nordic localities, and
  • to test a method of action research in learning from good practices of local innovation policies

The project started in September 2005 and was finalized in September 2006.
Financial support was i.a. granted by the Nordic Innovation Centre (NICe).

The research report 'Peripheral Localities and Innovation Policies. Learning from good practices between the Nordic Countries', can be read in pdf here
