Biomarkers in Pregnancy, Obesity and Diabetes (BIO-POD Group)

Research aim: Our objective is to assess and apply biochemical markers for early prediction and improved risk stratification and diagnosis of major pregnancy complications such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia and for breaking the vicious cycle of obesity and diabetes. Additionally, we seek to leverage multi-omics approaches to achieve deep phenotyping of molecular alterations associated with hyperglycemia in placental and umbilical cord vasculature.

Projects

  • Multi-omics -based deep phenotyping of molecular alterations associated with hyperglycemia in placental and umbilical cord vasculature (GDMB project)
  • Development of a risk engine for prediction of gestational diabetes and adverse pregnancy outcomes in the prospective cohorts SugarMum and Odense Child Cohort
  • Identifying Cardiometabolic Risk Markers for Obesity-Related Diseases -Analysis of the South Danish Obesity Initiative Cohort
  • Placental biomarkers for prediction of preeclampsia
  • Implementation and retrospective performance of the ratio of angiogenic factors sFlt-1/PlGF in women with suspected preeclampsia

Available cohorts and infrastructures

  • SugarMum (biobank wk 12, wk 24-28)
  • Danish Diabetes Birth Registry 2 (DDBR2) (biobank wk 12, wk 24-28) (Prof. Dorte Møller Jensen)
  • Odense GDM (biobank wk 8-12)
  • PRESIDE-OUH (biobank wk 12)
  • Odense Child Cohort (Prof. Marianne Skovsager Andersen)
