Associate professor Olivier Schmitt has obtained 498.462 DKK to research project

Associate professor Olivier Schmitt was granted 26.000€ from the Gerda-Henkel Stiftung and 305.333 DKK from the DFF to conduct fieldwork for the project « Learning from Afghanistan »

This project explores how military organizations learn from battlefield experience and focuses on the strategic knowledge gathered from the Afghanistan intervention in three categories: Military doctrine, cooperation with allies, and field cooperation with civilian organizations (Non-Governmental Organizations or International Organizations). It compares Germany, France, Denmark, Norway and the United States, which all faced very different battlefield conditions, with the likely effect of differently shaping the lessons they drew from the intervention. Olivier Schmitt will be spending spring 2018 at New York University researching the military knowledge the US armed forces have learnt from Afghanistan.
