  3. You will now be assigned admin-privileges for 15 min.

  4. Close all Office programs: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.

    ****************************************************************************
If you are new to EndNote, now go to step 8.

If you have an earlier version of EndNote (X7or X8) - and/or are about to change computer please read below:
    a) First you have to create a back-up of your library by syncing it to www.Myendnoteweb.com.
    b) If you have to change computer, you must create a "Compressed library" and take this file to the new computer. Remember to store the library locally on the harddisk - and not om shared drives as Q, M, Onedrive, etc.
    c) Hereafter you should remove the old Endnote version. Please follow step 5-7.
    *****************************************************************************

  5. Go to SEARCH in the process line, left corner below.

  6. Find and open "Add or Remove Programs".
  7. Find the obsolete EndNote version and remove it. This will not affect your library.

  8. Go to SEARCH in the process line, left corner below.
  9. Search for "Software Center" and open it.

  10. Find, open and install "EndNote X9".

  11. Now you can find EndNote X9 in your list of programs. Open the EndNote X9 program and run any updates.
  12. When EndNote opens, you will see this box, where you can create an Endnote Web account. EndNote advice you to do this, in order for you to have a synchronized cloud based backup version of your library. Follow the wizard and remeber your Endnote password.

  13. If you are new to EndNote, you will see a grey screen without content. This is correct. You create your Endnote Library by pressing the tab File/New. Choose a personal name for your library and save it locally on your computer's hard disk. EndNote will automatically create a "Data-folder" with the same name as your EndNote library. The Data-folder will be placed the same place as your library.

    NOTE!
      • Create only one EndNote library and save it locally on your machine. The library can be damaged, if you save it in shared services like Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive, etc.
      • Give the library name and the data folder name a personal name, eg. yourname.enl and yourname.data. If you ever rename the library, the data folder must be renamed with the same title.
      • The two files (library+folder) work as a pair and should always be placed in the same folder (but don't put the library in the Data-folder).
      • Decide where you will place your library and data-folder and leave it there.
  14. You can now open your library from the folder, where it is placed - or via the program.

  15. Open Word and check if you can see a new Endnote X9 tab.  If you don't see the Endnote X9 tab, you can try the following:
      • Close Word
      • Open the program folder under "This pc / Windows (C:) / Program Files /Endnote
      • Run ”Configure Endnote.exe”
      • Choose “Configure Endnote components”
      • Choose “Cite while you write add-in”
      • The Endnote tab should now be visible in Word. If not you should contact IT-service.

Now you are ready to use EndNote.

If you need to use the feature "Find full text", please send a mail to endnote@bib.sdu.dk to get the links needed.
