The Centre’s research agenda addresses three thematically distinct areas:

  • Middle Eastern affairs and regional developments in their global contexts
  • Issues of migration and cultural transformation with their implications for Denmark and Europe
  • Linguistics and studies on methods and didactics of the teaching of communicative Arabic

The Centre covers the modern Middle East from the 19th century onwards, with a particular focus on the 20th and the 21th centuries. Geographically, the Middle East is defined as a regional state system demarcated by Morocco in the west, Iran in the east, Turkey in the north and Sudan in the south. The various research projects of the staff members are conducted in close cooperation with national and international academic institutions, as well as with Danish governmental and non-governmental organizations.
