The SDU Center for Nano Optics (www.sdu.dk/nano-optics) at the University of Southern Denmark (Odense Campus) invites applications for several postdoctoral research fellowships within the research area of quantum plasmonics. The application deadline is September 1st 2019, and the prospective starting date is between October 2019 and February 2020.
SDU Center for Nano Optics has cutting-edge fundamental research activities in plasmonics and metasurfaces. The activities of the center’s two PI’s (Prof. Bozhevolnyi & Prof. Mortensen) include the theoretical and experimental explorations of light-matter interactions at the interface of classical electrodynamics and quantum physics, with extreme spatial confinement of both light fields and matter. The center has world-class nano optics and quantum optics labs, and access to state-of-the-art nanofabrication and novel electron spectroscopy. In addition to local support, the center is supported by prestigious grants from the European Research Council (ERC Advanced Grant) and VILLUM FONDEN (Villum Investigator grant).
The postdoc openings are for up to three years, with the possibility for extension given satisfactory performance. The total duration of a postdoctoral fellowship in Denmark cannot exceed four years.
We seek candidates with optical lab-expertise, with strong backgrounds in condensed-matter physics, quantum optics, nanophotonics, and related areas. The successful candidates will contribute to frontier research in areas where potentially both light and matter exhibit quantum mechanics. In addition to optical spectroscopy, experimental explorations will harvest from the access to state-of-the-art scanning nearfield optical mictroscopy (SNOM) and novel electron microscopy of plasmons (EELS & CL). Material platforms range from noble metals to 2D materials and quantum emitters brought about by e.g. quantum dots and defect centers in nanocrystals.
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in an area more closely related to the research field of the call.
Candidates should motivate their application. The application should also clearly state if there has been any preliminary contact/discussion with the PI.
The filling of positions is supported by the Villum Investigator program awarded by VILLUM FONDEN to the principle investigator. For more information, see http://veluxfoundations.dk/en/content/dkk-400-million-11-international-top-researchers-science-and-technology
