Accidents offshore

The oil and gas industry has a very high focus on accident prevention. The PhD thesis ‘Towards vision zero’ about possibilities and challenges for accident prevention concludes that there is still room for improvement although the industry has worked hard and has come a long way in regard to improving safety.

This follow-up survey focuses on how and in what direction the oil and gas industry has changed since 2011.

Objective
The aim is to study changes in attitudes to safety over time, and to study if learning from near-misses, involvement of safety representatives etc. has improved since data was gathered the first time during the period 2009-2011.

Method
The project makes use of quantitative as well as qualitative methods. Data are gathered by the use of electronic questionnaires, near-miss and accident reports, assessment of procedures, observations during safety meetings, workshops with offshore employees, and interviews with the management.
