Karl Attard, Postdoc, Nordcee

Research area:

I am a broadly interested in productivity of aquatic ecosystems. Most of my research focuses on shallow benthic habitats such as seagrass, macroalgae, and mussel beds. I investigate primary production and respiration processes using a range of techniques, which range from habitat-scale fluxes using aquatic eddy covariance, to detailed small-scale measurements using microsensors developed in-house at Nordcee. Currently I have a joined Postdoctoral position between SDU and the Tvärminne Zoological Station in Finland.

Biodiversity, carbon cycling, oxygen dynamics, macrophytes, invertebrate reefs

Examples of previous bachelor and MSc projects (year):

    • Biodiversity and oxygen dynamics within seagrass and macroalgae canopies in the Baltic Sea (MSc project, University of Helsinki 2018-2019)

Bachelor and MSc projects which are available:

I am always happy to discuss potential projects, so please get in touch. I am also keen to discuss projects with students interested in geospatial data and modelling. Here are some ideas:
    • Primary production and nutrient cycling associated with shallow invertebrate reefs (Mytilus edulis)
    • Oxygen dynamics in canopies of the brown macroalga Fucus vesiculosus
